The Hands of God

Hebrews 10:26: “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,”

The writer of Hebrews is now telling us what will happen if we reject the gospel by deliberately continue in our habitual sin without changing (We can change if we are truly in Christ). If we reject the gospel of Jesus’ death and resurrection, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins, because we have rejected the only one sacrifice for sins, namely, Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews also tells us in: Hebrews 10:31: “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” But I thought that the hands of God were a safe place, a place that we can find rest and refuge. That is all true, but it is true for believers; those that have accepted the gospel, and trusted in the Lord. If we are not trusting in the Lord, or have rejected the gospel; we will fall into the “Hands of Wrath” of the living God. By rejecting the gospel, we are saying: “I don’t need you Jesus.” Or, “I don’t want you.” Consider: Hebrews 10:28, 29: “Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?” What is worse then death? How about Eternal separation from God, by being thrown into Hell. Which is where we will go if we reject the gospel of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

If you are not a believer in the Lord Jesus, then God’s hands hold only wrath for you. You have rejected His Son, and tramped Him under Your foot. You have done all this by rejecting the Son of God, namely Jesus Christ. But if you call out to the Lord for forgiveness, it will be given to you. God’s hands will become a refuge, instead of a crusher. Call out for forgiveness today.

For all my fellow believers in the Lord Jesus; if you are deliberately sinning after having received the knowledge of the truth (the gospel), ask for forgiveness, and change right away (remove all access to that sin, and get an accountability partner. Your church should also be able to help you.). Remember that we have receive forgiveness, freedom, and life in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our savior and Lord.

God gave us a way out of our sin, in the death and resurrection of His Son. We didn’t deserve it, but we were it was still given to us. Why would we reject it, how could we reject the one and only way out of our sin? God has given us freedom from sin, forgiveness, hope, a new life, and a inner peace that nothing else can give us; in the death and resurrection of Jesus. How great is our God!

Heavenly Father, I thank You, for giving us so many free gifts in the death and resurrection of Your Son, Jesus. And Jesus, I thank You, for giving up Your life, to give me a new one. And Holy Spirit, I ask, that You would keep me from rejecting the gospel at any time, and help me to fix my eyes on the gospel, and on my Lord, Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
